🏄‍♀️ Tips for improving your visuals without being a graphic designer

Hello to you 🤙

I hope you are in good shape! 🔥

When I was studying, a teacher told me “You never get a second chance to make a good first impression”. In a world where first impressions are often made through images, taking care of your visuals is essential, even if you don't have any design skills.

Tips for improving your visuals without being a graphic designer

This is how all my days in Egypt start, not bad right?! 😍

Today, there are plenty of simple tools, techniques and best practices for creating professional visuals that will captivate your audience.

Here's how to transform your visual content without breaking the bank or spending hours on it!

1. Use Canva for professional designs, quickly and for free 🌞

As I often say, Canva is, in my opinion, a must-have tool for all entrepreneurs. This platform lets you create visuals in just a few clicks thanks to thousands of pre-designed templates suitable for social networks, posters, presentations or even business cards.

The key to using Canva is to start with a template that matches your objective. For example, if you want to create an Instagram post, select a template already optimized for this format. Add your colors, text and logo.

Canva lets you upload your own photos or use its bank of free images and icons to enrich your design. Investing in the premium version may be worthwhile if you need advanced features like background removal or unlimited access to their library.

2. Adopt a consistent color palette 🌞

Visual consistency is crucial to reinforcing your brand identity. If your audience easily recognizes your visuals thanks to consistent colors and styles, you gain impact. Start by choosing a palette of 2-3 main colors that reflect your business or values.

For example:

  • If you're in the wellness business, soft tones like beige, light green and pastel blue can convey a sense of calm and serenity.

  • If you're in business coaching, dynamic colors like red or orange combined with black or white can inspire confidence and action.

Tools like Adobe Color or Coolors allow you to create a harmonious palette. Once defined, use this palette in all your visuals for a strong, memorable visual identity.

3. Simplify your design with legible fonts 🌞

The choice of fonts (or typography) can make all the difference to the clarity and aesthetics of your visuals. Choose simple, legible fonts, especially for short texts. Canva offers pairs of fonts that work well together, such as a main font for headlines (example: Montserrat) and a complementary font for body text (example: Open Sans).

A golden rule: don't mix more than two fonts in a visual, as this will confuse it. If you want to create a striking effect, play with the size, boldness or spacing of the letters.

4. Add high-quality photos 🌞

Blurred or pixelated images give an amateurish impression and detract from the credibility of your content. Use free image banks like Unsplash, Pexels or Pixabay to find professional photos that suit your message.

If you want to create a more personal visual, invest in a phone or camera with good photo quality and take your own shots.

Tip: don't hesitate to retouch photos slightly to harmonize colors or adjust brightness. Canva or free apps like Snapseed make it easy.

5. Add personalized visual elements 🌞

Make your visuals unique by adding elements that reflect your brand: logo, icons or illustrations.

If you don't already have a logo, Canva offers simple tools for creating one. For example, a restaurant entrepreneur could add a fork or dish icon to reinforce his identity.

Icons also simplify communication. For example, instead of writing “Download our app”, add a smartphone icon to attract attention.

6. Respect visual balance with the rule of thirds 🌞

The layout of your elements influences their legibility.

Use the rule of thirds: imagine your visual is divided into 9 equal sections (thanks to 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines). Place important elements, such as your text or call to action, on the intersections of these lines to naturally guide the viewer's eye.

For example, in an Instagram post for a product launch, place the product in the center and your promotional message in a top or bottom corner.
